Description

While revising the DRG and grouping property names in the Combined version we discovered some irregularities, which we wish to discuss in the forthcoming Expert Group meeting. The aim is to agree on some common rules to be followed in the future.

Things to be discussed:

1.      The use of words disease and disorder (e.g. 207C Diseases of pancreas except malignancy, w CC / 207C Disorders of biliary tract, w CC / 907O Disease or disorder of the hepatobiliary system, short therapy w/o significant procedure). In which cases should either one be used?

2.      The use of words procedure, operation and intervention (e.g. 493X Endoscopic or laparoscopic operation on gallbladder, w CC / 471N Bilateral or multiple major joint procedures of extremities / 209O Major joint procedures of lower extremity, not reoperation, short therapy /  470H False combination of diagnosis and intervention). In which cases should each one be used?

3.      The use of singular or plural forms of words (e.g. 088X Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease vs. 088M Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, w MCC). In which cases should either one be used?

4.      The use of the sign & (e.g. 248C Tendonitis, myositis & bursitis, w CC / 404X Lymphoma & non-acute leukemia, w/o CC). Should it be used, or should we always use the word and instead?

5.      The use of the term of the vs. just of (e.g. 350X Inflammation of the male reproductive system / 911FB Malignancy of kidney and urinary tract, cytostatic therapy, short therapy). Should the use of these be unified too?

Should any of the countries want to raise other issues under discussion, they can be added to the comments of this case.
